Hello Golfers,
Greenkeeper's news
Course looking great!

In the last newsletter I said how the grass wasn’t really growing and I was managing on my own, well it was around that time that things suddenly changed. Growth on the greens has still been relatively slow but all other areas have started to grow like crazy. This coincided with turning on the irrigation system for the first time since I started and discovering the amount of faults with the system. It was therefore agreed that I could get one of the other Greenkeepers back, so there are now two of us maintaining the course.

This will enable us to mow more frequently as well as getting other jobs done, such as irrigation repairs and spraying etc. I sprayed a wetting agent on the greens earlier this week, this will help any moisture to penetrate the surface and get down to the roots. I then started to spray the fairways with a selective herbicide. I’ve never seen so many daisies in my life, but speaking to other clubs, this seems to be a common problem this year. Unfortunately the wind picked up and so I had to stop, but this will be completed as soon as the conditions allow. I’ll then use any that’s remaining to spray selected areas of rough, as finding your golf ball in a field of daisies is a difficult task to say the least.

Finally I’d like to thank everyone for staying away during this period. I’ve seen a lot of stories from other clubs where people have been found sneaking on to play golf and I can gladly say this hasn’t happened once here. Your support is greatly appreciated!
