Greenkeeper’s Report "Hello all, This week we continue to renovate areas across the course. Last week we completed all tees and started on approaches. We are well ahead of schedule and remain to concentrate on the approach areas to finish these before the end of the week. Weather conditions are looking against us early morning as we are expecting heavy frosts, we may have delayed starts so please be patient later in the days as we will continue to work on areas. Greens maintenance will start next week on Monday. This will be a four-day process. Please be patient as we all understand greens work needs to be completed and surfaces will not be playing great for a week. We will address the greens every day to make play as best as possible. Irrigation has now been switched off for the winter, all pipelines have been blown out to protect all channels across the course. Leaves are falling well on all areas. Surfaces will be cleared daily but as we all know it’s a hard task to keep on top as they fall daily. Winter mowing is starting to minimize as surfaces are becoming very wet. We will address all mowing areas when the correct conditions come along. A final says from myself, as from today Monday 28th October I have handed in my four weeks’ notice here at The Welcombe Golf Club. I have been accepted as the Golf Course Manager at Leicester City’s new multimillion training ground facility and will be starting end of November. The past two years here at The Welcombe has been a huge stepping stone for me as Head Greenkeeper. I have fully enjoyed working alongside many staff and meeting members along the way. I can only thank everyone for their support through my two years and I wish you all the best for the future. My biggest thanks go to Tom, Andy and my greenkeeping team for all the hard work they put in to provide The Welcombe Golf Club with their efforts and full support." |
