Draws The draw for both Chip’s Anniversary Competition and Captain’s Day are now available to view online on your Club V1 app. The draw will be done this week for the Club Championship, so please check the Club v1 to view your tee time. The draw will be done in handicap order so the tee time and group that you entered with will have no bearing on the draw. Unfortunately, it had to be done this way as it was the only way for you to enter.

A note from your Captain Welcombe Golf Club 2019 Golf Season – Andrew Burton, Captain. I hope all our golfing members are enjoying the beautiful weather we are having and getting plenty of golf in. I never seem to be off the course these days with plenty of club matches and knock out competitions occurring. Still not sure why my golf doesn’t seem to improve considering the amount that I am playing? Answers on a postcard! Our club match results during June were not the best. All matches were at home and have started with a 5-1 victory against the Oaks, we, unfortunately, followed this with losses to Leamington and Finham. I’m, however, pleased to report a 4-2 win yesterday away at the superb Forest of Arden course. A big thank you to all the members that participate in these matches. We have our away match at Leamington next week and a home match against Hearsall on Saturday, 27 July. Anyone interested in playing any of our friendly matches please drop me a line.

Well, we finally got the Barn Dance up and running with a handful of members attending with lots of their friends. It was a fun evening with a total of £400 raised for Myton Hospice from the tombola during the event. A big thank you to Carol McKinney & Mark Scruby, the F&B team and those members that donated to the tombola for helping make the evening a success. This Sunday (14th July), is my Captains Charity day event. Unfortunately, we were unable to organise a ‘Shotgun’ start for this event but hopefully, we can persuade early Tee time members to hang around a bit longer. The outline plan for the day is Texas Scramble format with teams of four, Beat the Pro (MJ) on the 6th Hole (winners get a free academy lesson with one of the club Pros), team prizes for first, second and third place, Charity raffle, Indoor Putting competition. We are operating a rolling barbecue on the terrace and will be awarding prizes and drawing raffle once teams are back in the clubhouse. Myself, Mark and Carol will not be playing but will be travelling around course with free drinks and raffle tickets! Looking forward to a great day and raising some charity money. I presented a £250 cheque to Morgan last week. The plan is to use this first donation towards kit and junior member team shirts as he continues to try and develop the junior academy.
Thank you for your time and enjoy your golf. Andrew Burton WGC Captain 2019.

Oakridge Away So, off we headed to a tricky away fixture against Oakridge trying to make amends for the previous weeks lose, with a tricky course awaiting us and rain in the air we gathered on hole one raring to get going. Messer’s Lythall and Tedstone led the way both hitting decent shots down the first, followed by Moisty and Dave French. It was soon quite clear that most greens were on slopes and the “bump and run” was the shot to play, with Kristian and a first appearance from Terry Smith also hitting good shots off the first all seemed to be going to plan. Maron Wyatt and I went off fourth with Graeme Hogg/Pete Richards fifth and a late call up for Paul Tunnicliffe who partnered with Dave Sheppard sixth. The early stages seemed to be going well with no pairs in each team running away with it, the rain came and our fortunes seemed to turn in our favour. The game ended up with a 3-1/2 – 2-1/2 win for us which was a great result away. The result has put us back in the top 3 and with the surprise defeat of hot favourites Warwickshire, everything is to play for still. We entertain Copeswood Heath at home on Sunday, 28 July - a game we hope to take full advantage of. Anyone interested in Avon League Golf please contact me on 07595 211355.
