Macmillan Longest Day Challenge – Completed it! Dear all, we just wanted to formally confirm the details behind a great Macmillan Longest day challenge last Friday, and thank all of you who got behind us with your generous donations and especially to everyone who helped us with the logistics and contributions to all the complimentary fundraising activities that bolstered the pot. We couldn’t have ordered the weather to be any better for 15 hours of golf on the day - warm, without being draining, dry, not too windy – perfect. So, we started at 5.30am ( after Norm had finished posing for the long lenses) and whilst we kept individual scores it was the best two from four to count – over the four rounds, we recorded 90, 86, 83 and finally 84 points for the final round. Jonty got in at daft o’clock to get bacon rolls and coffee ready for us to kick the first round off with, and then kept visiting us throughout the rounds with encouragement, finally buying us all a beer at the end - Top Geezer! Mrs Bridges also started us off with the Buggy support at 5am and helped later on when we needed some course management particularly in the third round when the course was congested. Julian chipped in (a rarity!) providing a caddy service for the first round. Kristian, Lucas and Tunners raided their respective companies stock cupboards so that we had meals and refreshments throughout the day - Lucas manned the halfway hut for a magnificent seven hours, with the best sausage rolls and pasties ever…amongst other goodies, and waved a donation bucket at every passing golfer! A brilliant effort which we believe will have swelled the coffers by over £200 and then of course a host of other supporters including JB, Patrick, Tom, Our Lady Captain, Grimmers (straight off a plane from Canada) and Mrs Tunners, all of whom helped create a brilliant atmosphere and provide the entourage for the final round to push us over the line. We had a birdie target of 36 with a decent number of you committing your hard earned money for every birdie recorded. We achieved 22 in the end, mostly from Morgs it has to be said and this helped raise another £170. So, at the time of writing, we’ve still to get the final numbers confirmed, but it will be well in excess of £2500 – a fantastic result and made possible by a real collective effort from all who supported us with their donations and help during the day itself. 98% of the funding for Macmillan comes from donations – anyone who’s been in the unfortunate position of needing them will appreciate just how great and important they are when you need them most - so we’re delighted to have completed this challenge and to be able to give our thanks to everyone who helped us achieve it, from Morgs, Norm, Tunners and me.
