The Vale of Evesham: Away
Another very tough away fixture with newcomers The Vale. We knew the course was long but after a great win, the previous week confidence was high. A warm welcome for The Welcombe followed by a great breakfast and some very interesting putting practice near the first-tee was followed by last week’s pairings Lythal/Tedstone leading us off. Once both our guy's tee’d off, up stepped their first player who hit a ball absolutely miles, we had certainly got a battle on our hands.
Early points on the board settled The Welcome and we were up in most matches. A good dousing of rain slowed the greens and our decent lead began to diminish, but we kept to the plan and had a fantastic 4/2 win on the day. This will probably be our best performance away this season, The Vale is a long, tough track and they have a very strong team. Wins for Mark Bryd/Pete Richards - Paul Tunnicliffe/myself - Mark Moist/Martin Hallam, Half’s for Kristian Summerfied/Matt Phillips and Ash Minihane/James Canning sealed the victory, two home games now so hopefully put more points on the leaderboard. Another great note to make is Martin Hallam is leading “Player of the year” in the Avon League to date, rivalling over 120 players, great stuff skip - keep it going. Jake Day
