Head Greenkeepers Report October 17th 2018 Hello to all members and guests,
Busy week ahead for us setting up for the winter Pro-Am, course has been set up and areas tidied for the competition.
Tee’s renovations will commence this week. Hollow coring at 5-inch depths, seeding, fertilizing and topdressing. 4th, 5th & 12th have been cored twice because of the stress and lack of growth they have had this year. Markers will remain on tees up until December. Greens are recovering well after last week’s renovations. Since Wednesday, we have had 58mm of rainfall. Sand has nicely washed into the greens and growth has begun to show from the scattering of fertilizer. Seed will germinate nicely after the warm wet conditions. Areas of the course are starting to build up with a heavy fall of leaves, we will be doing our best to keep areas tidy daily to ensure speed of play is good and lost balls are kept to a minimum.
Bunker work will commence again start of November.
Old bunker left of 4th green is now GUR
Can I please ask everyone to repair pitch marks on greens and divots around the course especially on fairways. I hope you are all continuing to enjoy your golf at The Welcombe golf club. On behalf of myself and the greenkeeping team we would like to thank you all for your continued support.
Many Thanks Billy Hayes Head greenkeeper The Welcombe golf resort
