Head Greenkeepers Report September 27th 2018 Hello to all members and guests,
After a few down pours of rain over the past two weeks, the course is starting to soak up the moisture in our roots and grow with areas from the summer recovering well. Growth is at a steady pace with our recent cooler temperatures.
Greens units have had a re-grind and we are cutting at 3mm for the next four weeks to then slowly raise the height going into the winter. Leaf’s are starting to fall in areas with our autumn season upon us. After a busy week last week and the start of this week, we have installed and completed all the irrigation parts we have had delivered. 10 valve boxes, 3 pumps and 13 sprinklers. 18th,15th and 17th are complete. We are still waiting on 84 sprinklers which are being shipped from America to complete the remaining greens on the course. Bunkers have all been edged and weeded. Looking nice and sharp!
Bunker maintenance will commence again next week on Monday, greenside bunkers on 1st, 2nd, 14th and 13th will be completed.
Please be aware greens maintenance will commence Monday 8th October for the week. 10” depth verti-drain, 5” microcore plugs, scarify, seed, fertilizer, topdress - please give way to green staff. I hope you are all continuing to enjoy your golf at The Welcombe golf club. On behalf of myself and the greenkeeping team, we would like to thank you all for your continued support.
Many Thanks Billy Hayes Head greenkeeper The Welcombe golf resort
