Captain's log Dear Welcombe Massive, In my last piece I mentioned some club games we had coming up. We played The Oaks away on the Friday in a club friendly and won 5-1 and then had to play a different Oaks Team on the Sunday in the Avon League but the match was abandoned after a deluge or rain before a result could be established. We then played a week later and having needed another big win to improve our chances of finishing second, we duly did exactly that with another 5-1 win over the Oaks again, and by doing so Finished Second in the League. We used 28 players during the Season for the Avon league who have all been a credit to the Club and deservedly secured second spot with some really gritty, determined performances not to mention a little bit of class in there too. I could easily give special mentions to all the regular players, but based on stats alone I feel these should go out to Iain Lythall, Martin Hallam, Andrew Kirk, Mark Newton, Steph Clarke and Kristian Summerfield who have been ever present and contributed significantly to the teams results - well played and thanks fellas! There are at least another half dozen / more who I greatly appreciate your support and efforts - you know who you are! We now play on Saturday at the Oaks again but against all the other clubs in the league for the Avon League Cup this time. Will keep you posted on that. Last weekend we did the Captains away weekend bit - taking on Cookridge Hall nr Leeds and then Moortown (the first club to host the Ryder Cup back in 1929). Really great courses, obviously Moortown was a tad more challenging especially after a late Saturday which sorted the men from the boys. So well played to Ash who took the honours in the pairs on the Saturday (carrying Brommers naturally!) and then again on Sunday at Moortown. Very enjoyable and again thank you all for your support and the £130 which went into the Captains Charity pot!
I know a fair few are still holidaying at the moment but looking forward to getting some good autumnal golf in now and as the course continues to recover and improve. Also, still honours to play for which will presented at the presentation evening in November (get your tables booked) so plenty to look forward to! See you soon, Neal.
