Senior's team A determined Welcombe senior's team arrived in good spirits at Stratford Oaks on a fine but very blustery Thursday to play an equally determined team of SOAKS. Having renewed a few old acquaintances, the individual matches began in earnest from the 1st, 17th and 18th tees. Most matches started in a very friendly manner with both sides being too polite to take a lead and keep it. But after the initial holes most to the Welcombe senior pairings began to exert a little pressure, taking small but stable leads. On the 13th, a short downwind par-4, the SOAKS had arranged a nearest the pin after two competitions for the Welcombe visitors. Although the windy conditions quickly blew the marker sheet to goodness knows where, the prize of a sleeve of balls finally went to a very deserving Keith Lazenby who was able to snaffle it out of the Captains grasp (and he still expects to be selected next week!). The Welcombe seniors were finally able to win three matches by reasonably comfortable margins with three or four holes still to play and one going down to the wire on the 18th, whilst managing to halve the remaining two, to win by a convincing 5 to 1. Following a substantial roast lunch, the Welcombe team left The Oaks looking forward to the next match at home to The Warwickshire on Wednesday 20th June.
