Martin Hallam’s Captains away weekend - A weekend to remember! 32 Welcombe members arrived in Weston Super Mere this weekend to participate in Martin Hallam’s Captains’ away weekend. Saturday’s golf was played at Weston Golf Club in their annual Open Competition, the weather while stood on the first tee could only be described as less than ideal. Over 15 of us all huddled in their starters shelter, waiting for what felt like a hurricane to pass over the golf course. Fortunately just as our Captain stepped onto the first tee the clouds seem to break up and the sun stayed out for the rest of the day. Weston Golf course was a good test of golf especially in 25 MPH cross winds on every hole. The Prize pot was shared by four pairs of members with an impressive score of 41 points in the betterball format. For a few members the night out in Weston on the Saturday was seen as the main event for the weekend, with a number of especially sore heads in the morning. Congratulations to Rob Day for winning on Sunday at Worlebury Golf Club with an monumental 45 points. The Golf Club sponsored the prizes for Sunday with Rob winning a dinner bed and breakfast stay at The Welcombe Hotel as first prize. Below are two pictures from the start of the round to the end of the round. |
