June Stableford
Scoring was very good in last weekend's June Stableford with three scores in the 40s. Murry Macleod claimed top spot in Division 1 with 40 points, winning on countback from Scott Williams with Charlie Miles in third place, 3 points further back with 37 points. In Division 2 it was Mark Bryd who finished 1st with 40 points, a point ahead of Mike Dean and two in front of Mark Taylor.
There were 8 two's on the day, each receiving £8.50. Those with a two were; G Morris @11th; James Corless @14th; John Prior @2nd; Terry Smith @12th; Walter Fallon @2nd; Trevor Smith @11th; Mark Taylor @2nd; Chris Dean @11th.
The Welcombe Does The Double Over The Oaks!
Both our senior team and our club team successfully beat Stratford Oaks last week with some fantastic individual and team performances.
Club Team
The Club Team beat Stratford Oaks 4 - 2 to the Welcombe with the most notable victory coming from John Mcgee and Tom Toulson who were their match 7 - 5. Well done to everyone that secured the Club Team victory this week.
Seniors Team
The Welcombe Senior team came back from their defeat against Stoneleigh last week with a decisive 4 - 2 win over Stratford Oaks at the Oaks on Thursday June 16th. The course was in great condition and the club has made some excellent improvements to what is already an attractive layout with some interesting and challenging holes. Their greens were very slick and had apparently been recently 'ironed' - I had thought you only did that to shirts!
In the Captain's match Graeme Hogg and I were given a severe putting lesson over the first 9 and were deservedly 3 down at the turn. But with true Welcombe grit we took ourselves in hand, girded up our loins and won 2 & 1. Martin Beevers and Colin Harris were one of two pairs winning 7 & 5 and allegedly coming in with a two over par 'gross' off handicaps of 22 and 17 - despite this the Oaks showed us their usual outstanding hospitality and no tyres were let down in the car park.
Our next match is Ingon Manor (H) on July 5th, but be quick there are very few tickets left!
