Brian Geldard 

It is with deepest regret I inform you our fellow member, Brian Geldard, passed away earlier this week. Brian was a popular member of the club and will be solely missed. I personally have great memories spent out on the practice area with Brian, having nearest the pin competitions, which he loved to practise and was very competent at. 

I will publish details of his funeral as soon as they are able. Our thoughts are with Brian's family.

Golf Course Maintenance 

In Preparation for the season Adrian and the team will be starting their essential greens maintenance program on Monday 20th March. Please be patient with the greenkeeping staff if you plan to play the course this week. If you have planned to bring a guest to the course this week I will be offering a reduced green fee to members guest and vistors.

   

Monday 20th - Double Scarify This is a necessary maintenance task in the fight to remove the thatch, which is constantly building up. If we replace this sponge like material with a more free draining sandy topdressing the greens will eventually become firmer and therefore faster, and not so prone to waterlogging.

Tuesday 21st - Solid Tining As opposed to hollow tines that we use to pull cores out of the ground, we will be using a solid tine that creates a hole and does not remove any soil. Solid Tine aeration is very beneficial to the turf and is less disruptive to the playing surface than core aeration.

Wednesday 22nd - Top Dressing Top dressing is the process of applying sand to the greens surface after scarifying and tining in order to promote plant health and playability. 

Thursday 23rd/ Friday 24th - Brushing The remaining days during the week will be spent brushing in the top dressing making the greens more playable for the weekend golf.
